At the left and the right you see the reverse and obverse of a commander's cross of the Ordre Civil et Militaire de la Couronne d'Acier [Civil and Military Order of the Steel Crown]. This order was established by King Orelie-Antoine on December 17, 1869 at Perquenco, then the capital of the Kingdom of Araucania and Patagonia. Originally it's name was Royal Order oft the Steel Crown surmounted by the star of the south. On December 31, 1872, Orelie-Antoine issued new statutes for the order and changed its name to the Royal Civil and Military order of the Steel Crown. Thus, the order is, properly speaking, now an order of merit, and no more an order of knighthood.
HERE you can find pictures of older crosses, like they have been produced and awarded during different periods.
